Education and OSCY: What about it?
"Education gives us a knowledge of the world around us and changes it into something better. It develops in us a perspective of looking at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life."
Better education is very necessary for all to go ahead in the life and get success. It develops confidence and helps building personality of a person. School education plays a great role in everyone’s life. The whole education has been divided into three divisions such as the primary education, secondary education and Higher Secondary education. All the divisions of education have their own importance and benefits. Primary education prepares the base which helps throughout the life, secondary education prepares the path for further study and higher secondary education prepares the ultimate path of the future and whole life. Our good or bad education decides that which type of person we would in the future.
The most common reasons among OSCYs for not attending school were marriage or family matters (37.0%), lack of personal interest (24.7%), and high cost of education or financial concern (17.9%). Among females OSCYs, marriage or family matters (57.0%) was the main reason for not attending school while lack of personal interest among males (43.8%).
Nationwide, about one-half of OSCYs belong to families whose income fall at the bottom 30 percent based on their per capita income.
In order to mitigate the number of students who drop out, DepEd focuses in strengthening its incentives such as tuition subsidies programs and alternative learning system to support the OSCY.
One in every 10 Filipinos aged 6 to 24 years is an out of school child and youth, a survey of the Philippine Statistics Authority showed.
The 2016 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (Apis) showed the country has about 3.8 million out-of-school children and youth or about 10 percent of the 39 million Filipinos with age range six to 24 years old.
